Guidelines for Use of Brower Student Center

Thank you for choosing the Brower Student Center (BSC) for your event.  All parties reserving space in the BSC are subject to the following designed to ensure a safe and well-planned event.

  • Reservations must be made by a responsible representative of the Sponsoring Organization requesting BSC facilities.  The BSC reserves the right to refuse any such reservation request.
  • Approval of a reservation does not constitute an endorsement of the event by either the BSC or The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).  Any advertisements associated with this event should not infer otherwise (e.g., advertising should not use language such as “The College of New Jersey Presents…”).
  • The Sponsoring Organization is responsible for timely communication of set-up needs.  Additionally, a responsible representative of the Sponsoring Organization is highly encouraged to check the space 30-60 minutes prior to the event to ensure that all set up needs have been met.
  • The Sponsoring Organization is responsible for the conduct of all event participants and ensuring that all aspects of the event are in compliance with all federal, state, and local statutes; as well as any BSC or TCNJ policies, procedures, or guidelines.  The BSC reserves the right to deny building usage to any participant(s) or sponsoring organizations in violation of said policies/laws.
  • BSC Staff reserves the right to  require security or campus police to be present at the event at the sole expense of the Sponsoring Organization
  • Fire safety and room capacity regulations must be adhered to at all times. Maximum capacity numbers are posted in each room. However, maximum room capacity may be reduced dependent upon the nature of the event or the layout of the space.
  • Unless determined otherwise by the Manager of the Brower Student Center; the Sponsoring Organization is responsible for purchasing applicable insurance for the event.
  • No adhesive materials, tacks, nails, screws, etc., may be used to affix decorations to the building, its furnishings, fixtures, or other equipment.  A limited number of easels and other portable signage are available and should be requested along with the room reservation request.
  • The Sponsoring Organization is responsible, financially or otherwise, for any negligent or intentional damages to the building, its furnishing, fixtures, or equipment incurred as a result of this event.  All trash should be removed from the room.  Any items left behind may be discarded.  Excessive cleaning fees may be applied for any space that requires cleaning beyond regularly scheduled housekeeping.
  • The following behaviors are prohibited unless prior written approval is obtained from the Manager of the Brower Student Center or his/her designee:
    • Playing of music in any lounge or public area
    • Burning of candles
    • Changes to the arrangement of furniture (note: if approved, all furniture must be returned to its normal configuration at the conclusion of the event)
    • Presence of animals, other than service animals.
  • The following behaviors are prohibited from the Student Center:
    • Use of confetti, glitter, snow spray, bubble, fog, mist, smoke, non-disposable helium tanks, or snow machines
    • Solicitation
    • Gambling
    • Public screening of copyrighted materials without appropriate performance rights
    • Use of Vehicles (golf carts, bicycles, roller skates/blades, skateboards) inside the building
    • Smoking indoors or less than 10 feet away from building entrances, openings, or air intakes.  All smoking related products should be disposed in designated receptacles.
    • Possession, use, and/or consumption of alcohol (except in designated locations being served by TCNJ Dining Services), illegal drugs, weapons, laser pointers, fireworks, or firearms.
  • Failure to comply with any aspect of this document may result in referral to Student Conduct and/or Campus Police for appropriate action as outlined by the TCNJ Student Conduct Code, TCNJ Student Organization Conduct Code, TCNJ Fraternity and Sorority Privileges & Responsibilities, as well as federal, state, and local law.
  • The BSC reserves the right to cancel or terminate any reservation if conditions or guidelines as outlined in this document have not be met.
